I'm from Missouri

This site is named for the famous statement of US Congressman Willard Duncan Vandiver from Missouri : "I`m from Missouri -- you'll have to show me." This site is dedicated to skepticism of official dogma in all subjects. Just-so stories are not accepted here. This is a site where controversial subjects such as evolution theory and the Holocaust may be freely debated.

Name:
Location: Los Angeles, California, United States

My biggest motivation for creating my own blogs was to avoid the arbitrary censorship practiced by other blogs and various other Internet forums. Censorship will be avoided in my blogs -- there will be no deletion of comments, no closing of comment threads, no holding up of comments for moderation, and no commenter registration hassles. Comments containing nothing but insults and/or ad hominem attacks are discouraged. My non-response to a particular comment should not be interpreted as agreement, approval, or inability to answer.

PZ Myers calls this blog "a bottomless pit of stupidity"

I noticed a sudden surge in the frequency of visits to this blog. My daily number of visitors is normally in the range of 20-50 and the highest I have previously seen was about 80 visitors in a single day. Today I have received over 200 so far. So I went to the "By Referrals" page of my Sitemeter and found that most of my visitors were coming from a webpage titled "killfile dungeon" on PZ Myers' Pharyngula blog. Then to my surprise I found that I was at the top of PZ's list of banned commenters! I am listed as follows:

Miscreant:
Larry Fafarman
AKA Larry Farma, many others

Crime:
Stupidity, Morphing

Sentence:
Automatically Junked

Comments:
This fellow is probably mentally ill, but he's able to maintain a blog that is a bottomless pit of stupidity. Also banned at the Panda's Thumb.

Well, I feel honored.

It seems like a fair and honest description. What is it that you find fault with?

It seems a bit shallow for someone like PZ to be proud of the people he has banned. To imply that you want someone's opinion, but to ban those opinions that don't say "Hurray for our side", seems to be at the heart of what is wrong with this debate. It's odd how we filter out those things we don't want to hear.

I imagine I disagree with you on many topics, and I also disagree with people that say the earth had to have been created on October 23, 4004 B.C. at 9:00am. But for me to say I will only read blogs that agree with me and only listen to sermon’s that preach what I want to hear, then we would be better off to flounder around in the mud. We are not adding any value to the debate.

This whole damn debate has come down to both sides shouting at each other. Neither side is listening. No hearts are changed. I stopped blogging for 6 months to decide if it really was worth my time to typing. I imagine most my words simply are just preaching to the choir. Shouting to those converted to “My side” and asking for an “Amen Brother”.

As Gov. Schwarzenegger said --

"I'm always kicking their butts -- that's why they don't like me."

Congrats for being at the top, Larry,

As one of the four "Kansas Trolls", we also call ourselves the Kansas Gang of Four...not to be confused with the Christensen Clones, a competing group!, I notice that we only got a rating half way down the page.

But this does not discourage us!

Quite the contrary!

In a strange way, we find it quite inspiring and feel compelled to redouble our efforts. And frankly, I had felt no one noticed us!

This is a great country!

Yes -- though I'm from Missouri and not from Kansas, I'm close enough! I'd call myself a "border ruffian," but many of the border ruffians were racists and I have enough trouble just being a holocaust revisionist.

Except Larry is from California, not Missouri...

It's not uncommon for P.Z. to go into a rage. Consider his recent problem with Scott Adams, who isn't even an anti-Darwinist.

What color is the sky on your planet? You are always getting your butt kicked. I think you like it.

Myers evidently regards any questioning of Darwinist notions as "stupidity." So I'd be pleased if he called me "stupid."

Actually PZ has banned very few people, and the reason he banned the few he has were posted in the interests of transparency. PZ went so far as to provide a link to the blogs of those who are banned.

Morphing is certainly a blogging misdemeanor, and I note that Larry Fafarman has not denied the charge.

Yes, I am grateful for the link -- it gave this blog a lot of publicity. The number of daily visits to this blog -- normally in the range of 30-50 -- spiked to about 250 on the day that PZ posted the link.

I morphed only because I was banned. And if morphing is a blogging misdemeanor, then arbitrary censorship is a blogging felony.

If there were very limited opportunities for blogging, the situation might be different. But a host has every right and even a responsibility to monitor their forum. You can often privately approach moderators to explain your position. And if the moderator is being unfair, you have every right to strenuously complain on another forum. People will make up their own minds. When you are kicked out of a forum, sneaking in the backdoor can never be considered polite behavior, and such disrespect nearly always leads to a ban becoming permanent.

"Misdemeanor" in this case merely means "bad conduct".

IMO bloggers who kick out commenters who make comments that are civil, serious, and on-topic have no right to complain when those commenters sneak back in through the backdoor.

>>>>>> "Misdemeanor" in this case merely means "bad conduct". <<<<<<

"Felony" in this case means even worse conduct.

Some more of my thoughts on censorship of comments and commenters are posted in this article and the following comment thread.

Nice limerick, Jim! Unfortunately, it is not too likely to be noticed because this is already an old post and this blog service still does not provide a list of the most recent comments posted anywhere on the blog. However, you are welcome to post your limericks on new posts (even if not on-topic like your limerick is here) or posts links to your comment here.

When you are ejected from a forum, you can't claim the right to sneak back in. Your recourse is either negotiation, the courts, or the court of public opinion.

If you were to ask that I stop posting here, I certainly would respect your wishes.

I read through your blog posts. You state that "Panda's Thumb, a blog that has a bad reputation for arbitrary censorship of comments and commenters", and promise to support this. But you don't seem to have documented this history with regards to yourself. Nor have you provided information about bans other than your own.

The best way to combat a ban is simply to contact the blog owners and agree to comply with standard blog etiquette.

I'll browse your blog. I may post on more substantive issues as time permits.

Good luck with your blog.
