I'm from Missouri

This site is named for the famous statement of US Congressman Willard Duncan Vandiver from Missouri : "I`m from Missouri -- you'll have to show me." This site is dedicated to skepticism of official dogma in all subjects. Just-so stories are not accepted here. This is a site where controversial subjects such as evolution theory and the Holocaust may be freely debated.

My biggest motivation for creating my own blogs was to avoid the arbitrary censorship practiced by other blogs and various other Internet forums. Censorship will be avoided in my blogs -- there will be no deletion of comments, no closing of comment threads, no holding up of comments for moderation, and no commenter registration hassles. Comments containing nothing but insults and/or ad hominem attacks are discouraged. My non-response to a particular comment should not be interpreted as agreement, approval, or inability to answer.

Faint praise from Fatheaded Ed Brayton

On his blog Dispatches from the Culture Wars, Fatheaded Ed drivels,

Folks, I know this is going to be hard to believe but it's true: I've found someone who makes Larry Fafarman seem like Mortimer Adler by comparison. I mean howl at the moon, voices in his head, out of his freaking mind gone. His name is George Shollenberger.

In his last article about me in particular, Ed was forced to concede that his actions would be illegal in the UK and possibly elsewhere in Europe.

Also, Sleazy PZ Myers on his Pharyngula blog called this blog a "bottomless pit of stupidity".

I don't mind. The more good publicity I get for this blog, the better -- and ridicule from these two jerks is good publicity.

The guy has you topped. You do not, as yet, howl at the moon.

Hi Larry,

A propos of you posting at my blog requesting I sign up tp your association of non-censoring bloggers, I thought I'd take a peek at your blog again (previously, I have been abiding by Dave's request to avoid it).

There does seem to be some discrepancy between the stated aims of your association and your behaviour here. I am afraid I am now even less inclined to join your association, though thanks again for the invitation. How many invites did you send out BTW?

Looks like Larry is back and reading Alan's post. I wonder if he's going to respond?

Dave's "request" to avoid it? I don't care which Dave this is, but who is this Dave to tell you what you should and should not read?

>>>>> There does seem to be some discrepancy between the stated aims of your association and your behaviour here. <<<<<<

I shouldn't need to ask you what the "discrepancy" is, but I am asking.

So far, you are the only one who has been individually invited. There are not that many blogs out there that expressly state a no-censorship comment policy.

Sorry I didn't get back to answering your comment on your blog. I will try to do that soon.

BTW, please do not place any more comments on my membership list in my Association of Non-Censoring Bloggers website. That membership list was intended to be used only for the listing of members. Comments on that website should be placed on the "Overview" page.

W. Kevin Vicklund drivels,

Kevin, stop pretending that you have a crystal ball. There is no way you can know where I am and what I am reading.

Sure I can. Your own blog is sending your IP address to a third party (SiteMeter), which tracks where you "enter" and "exit" the blog as well as the reference site (including what serach term was used) and the "out click". You apparently use the blog as your homepage and the external links on the left instead of bookmarks.

Perhaps the fact that you censor posts while pretending to protest the practice?

Do you plan to censor that site too?

Yes there is. You have inadvertantly set it up on this site yourself. I guess the joke is on you.

ViW, we all know what you think. I want to know what Alan Fox thinks -- that is why I asked him the question.

And despite your complaints that your comments are disappearing, you have apparently not been resubmitting them.

I have rechecked my blog setup and have been assured that my own visits are not being tracked. Here is a copy from my setup --

CURRENT STATUS: Visits from this browser to your site . . . . are not being tracked.

NOTE: If you press the button to stop your visits from being tracked and the message above says they are still being tracked, then your browser is not configured correctly to send the "Ignore" cookie to Site Meter.

And if my cookie were not working right, I would not be getting the above message that my own visits are not being tracked.

BTW, I think I was wrong before when I said that Sitemeter showed the correct geographical coordinates of visitors -- I see no reason why visitors' communications would give that information.

Why should he bother? Why don't you just stop censoring them?

Your being "assured" has little to do with reality.

> CURRENT STATUS: Visits from this browser to your site . . . . are not being tracked. <

Does all of your software do what it says without fail? Your naive belief would also lead you to say that you could find out if someone was honest by simply asking them.

Look, I am really getting pissed off by these false charges of censorship. At least I am giving ViW a chance to resubmit his comments -- that is a hell of a lot more than I got from Fatheaded Ed Brayton, Sleazy PZ Myers, Wesley "Ding" Elsberry, Josh Rosenau (haven't thought up a nickname for him yet), and the whole staff of Panda's Thumb.

There have been no false charges of censorship.

> At least I am giving ViW a chance to resubmit his comments <

If you didn't censor them to begin with, I wouldn't need to resubmit them.

You suggested that I email them to you and you would post them yourself. I did email you and received no answer.

Come off it Larry and stop censoring. While you are at it, stop the lies.

BTW, I meant to do this earlier, but I want to congratulate Larry on finally figuring out how to prevent SiteMeter from recording his own site visits.
